Tallinn Named European Capital of Sport for 2025

CES Europe, the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Association, has awarded Tallinn the prestigious title of European Capital of Sport for 2025. This recognition highlights Tallinn’s strong commitment to sports and active lifestyles, marking the city as a leader in promoting community engagement, health, and wellness.

Throughout its year as the European Capital of Sport, Tallinn will celebrate a variety of sports and activities with themed months to reflect each season. The lineup includes skiing in January, biathlon in February, ice sports in March, hiking and Nordic walking in April, running in May, cycling in June, beach sports in July, ball games in August, orienteering in September, fitness in October, mind sports in November, and disc golf in December. The program, built around five core pillars, will engage schoolchildren, local sports clubs, and the entire community in a celebration of fitness and unity.

A highlight of the year will be the 57th International Children’s Games, along with the unveiling of new sports infrastructure across the city. Major international events will bring sports enthusiasts from around the world to Tallinn, with competitions such as the European Figure Skating Championships, Curling Mixed Doubles World Cup, Cross-Country Skiing World Cup, European Pool Championships, Simple Session, Ice Hockey World Championship Division I B, European Taekwondo Championships, Maijooks Run, European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, Disc Golf Major Tour, Offshore Sailing World Championships, IRONMAN Tallinn, Tallinn Marathon, and Tallinn International Horse Show.

Boasting over 570 sports venues and 1,000 exercise locations, Tallinn offers some of Estonia’s finest sports facilities—and they keep getting better. Convenient access to these spaces means Tallinn residents already enjoy higher-than-average levels of physical activity. Now, the city is ready to take this active culture to new heights.
