Christmas fairy tale on the Town Hall Square – Tallinn Christmas Market

The Tallinn Christmas Market, which was titled the most beautiful in Europe a couple of years ago, invites you to visit already on Friday, November 26. You will be able to enjoy the Christmas spirit until the new year, until January 2, 2022.

Traditionally, the jewel and centerpiece of the Christmas market is the Christmas tree, which is celebrating its anniversary this year: 580 years ago, in 1441, the first Christmas tree in Europe was erected on the Tallinn Town Hall Square. Now this custom has spread all over the world and has become an important part of the Christmas customs of very different nations – almost every village square now has its own Christmas tree. This time a spruce suitable for the representative square of our capital was found in the Kuusalu municipality. It took 300 golden balls of different sizes and more than 3 kilometers of light chains to decorate the spruce.

You can partake in the Christmas fairy tale all over the Old Town and beyond. The gates and gangways of the Old Town have been adorned with new decorations, light chains, and wreaths garnish the streets, and a spirited light installation is coming to Vabaduse Square again. There are as many as 250 small lit-up fir trees placed around the entire city.

The Tallinn Christmas Market is open every day from 12.00 to 19.00, and hot drinks are served even a few hours later. The Christmas market will last until the evening of January 2, 2022.
